The Church is excited to announce a performance by the Gil Gutiérrez Trio.  At age fourteen Gutiérrez began playing classical guitar in restaurants in Oaxaca and caught the attention of German born guitarist Wolfgang “Lobo” Fink of Willie & Lobo. At 17, he teamed up with Fink to play venues in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

The ultra-talented group includes renowned virtuoso guitarist and composer, Gil Gutiérrez, violinist Robert Stern and bassist David Rodriguez, who will join forces for a set of high-level improvising during their performance. Known for his unique ability to connect with the audience and channeling the local energy into their performance, Gil Gutiérrez Trio will be a concert that people do not want to miss.

Gil Gutiérrez, a native of Oaxaca, Mexico, is a classically trained composer with a mastery of jazz, flamenco, and son Cubano and known for his many performances with famed trumpeter Doc Severinsen, who discovered Gutiérrez playing in a restaurant. The two would go on to collaborate in a group known as San Miguel Five, which performed at more than 60 concert venues worldwide — appearing at The Kennedy Center, the Mexican Cultural Institute of the Mexican Embassy in Washington D.C., and New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Gutiérrez is known as one of Mexico’s finest musicians and has an avid following throughout Latin America, America, and Spain for his various works and performances.
