Award-winning photographers and bestselling authors Ken Browar & Deborah Ory join us to discuss their stunning art book Martha Graham Dance Company: 100 Years, which captures the current company of Graham dancers in gorgeous, spirited action. The husband-and-wife team are joined by artist, writer, and former Chief Curator of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, Bonnie Rychlak. The longtime friends will discuss their unique histories, the spirit of collaboration, the curatorial process and more – sharing with the audience photographic stills from the beautiful book that celebrates the 100 years of the Company. Following the discussion there will be a spirited Q&A with the audience, followed by a book signing.
The esteemed photographic duo, with ties to the editorial world have been documenting Dancers. Ory, a former dancer, and Browar a renowned fashion and editorial photographer, come together with a unique eye for shape, line, and nuance. Together they are able to compile masterpieces that are shaped by their unique vision.
Before becoming the chief curator of Isamu Noguchi’s Museum, Rychlak served as his studio assistant. She is a recognized authority on Noguchi, having curated numerous exhibitions worldwide and authored the accompanying catalogues. No stranger to collaboration, Rychlak joins the conversation with a unique perspective on the selection process in the creation of an art book.
Programmed in tandem with our exhibition Martha Graham: Collaborations, this program explores the spirit of collaboration while continuing to celebrate the legacy of the Company.

Martha Graham Dance Company: 100 Years is created by the husband/wife team of Ken Browar and Deborah Ory. Ken Browar is a renowned fashion and editorial photographer. His passion for dance began when he lived in Paris and photographed dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet. Deborah Ory began her photography career while injured as a dancer, photographing rehearsals. She has worked as a photo editor at Condé Nast and Mirabella, and as an editorial photographer.
Together, Browar and Ory are the creative team behind NYC Dance Project. Their work has been featured in newspapers and magazines worldwide, including Harper’s Bazaar, Dior Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and many others. Their photographs have been exhibited at many galleries and museums worldwide and they have won two International Photography Awards for their books. Browar and Ory are the authors of two bestselling previous books, The Art of Movement and The Style of Movement: Fashion and Dance.
BONNIE RYCHLAK

Bonnie Rychlak is an artist, curator, and writer. As a practicing artist she has presented her work in a few solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in museums in the United States and Japan. She graduated with a. Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her grants and residencies include Surnadal Billag A/S, Artist Residency in Norway; the American Academy in Rome; The Rockefeller Foundation, Bellagio Residency; and the National Endowment for the Arts in Sculpture. And she attended the residency at Bogliasco Foundation in Italy twice.
Her solo exhibitions include the Catskill Art Center in Livingston, New York. Memory and Oblivion at The Viewing Room in Chelsea, New York, Cutting Holes in Water at ASK? Art Space in Tokyo, Screen Memories at Gallery Three Zero, 30 Bond Street, New York, Role Models/Disparate Narratives at The Sculpture Center, New York, Shoshanna Wayne Gallery, in Santa Monica, California, Rastovsky Gallery, Broadway, New York, and St. Peter’s Church in New York, New York.
From 1980 until his death in 1988, Rychlak was Isamu Noguchi’s studio assistant. After his death, she remained at his foundation and its eventual museum until 2010, serving as chief curator. While there, Rhyclak curated exhibitions for his museum, both nationally and internationally, and wrote for accompanying catalogs. As a freelance curator, she organized numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. While at ArtHelix in Bushwick, she organized various exhibitions, including a drawing exhibition by Jene Highstein and an installation by sculptor Alain Kirli. In 2012, Rychlak produced an outdoor sculpture exhibition at the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, New York, and most recently another outdoor sculpture exhibition at the Bridge Hampton Museum. She also held group exhibitions at the Bogart Salon in Bushwick. In Orange County, California, she produced several exhibitions for philanthropist Henry Segerstrom. These included “On Display in Orange County: Modern and Contemporary Sculpture “as part of the Pacific Standard Time project.
