Join us as acclaimed photographer Heji Shin enters into dialogue about her work and observations with Ebony L. Haynes. Shin’s inclusion in Are You Joking? is a work from her The Big Nudes series that was shown in 2023 at 52 Walker in NYC; past solo exhibitions were at Reena Spaulings in NYC, Galerie Buchholz in Berlin, and she was featured in the 2019 Whitney Biennial. The pair will explore humor in Heji’s work, among other topics. A Q&A will follow the discussion.

Heji Shin (b. 1976 in Seoul, South Korea) lives and works in New York. In 2023, her one-person exhibition at 52 Walker in New York, titled THE BIG NUDES, brought together two new bodies of work. Other solo exhibitions have been presented at such institutions as KAT_A, Bad Honnef, Germany (2022), Le Consortium, Dijon, France (2021), and Kunsthalle Zürich (2018). Recent group exhibitions include No Dandy, No Fun, Kunsthalle Bern (2020), Time Is Thirsty, Kunsthalle Wien (2019), and the Whitney Biennial, New York (2019). Her photographs have appeared in publications and periodicals worldwide. In 2025, the artist will present her first solo institutional exhibition in the United States at the Aspen Art Museum.
