Sag Harborian Billy Baldwin not only draws inspiration from our village, he sweetens it with his gift of storytelling! The author of twelve children’s books, screenplays, creator of a successful cookie company, and all-around treasured community member joins us for May’s Knowledge Friday. Currently adopting his stories into animated shorts and movies, Billy has an irresistible spark of imagination. Hear how his unlikely journey from a Manhattan based cookie company led to a life of continuous creativity, including the journey of becoming a writer with dyslexia. Billy is joined in conversation by Steve Hamilton, co-founder of Bay Street Theater.

And true to his spirit of giving back to the community, the altruist promises to bring cookies for the audience to enjoy! Likewise copies of Billy’s books will be available to purchase, with proceeds to benefit The Church.

ABOUT BILLY BALDWIN

Billy Baldwin found a great passion for story telling when he started a cookie company years ago by creating and imaginary world,“ Cookie Island,” to help market those cookies. This passion led to Baldwin’s development of children’s books and screenplays.

Being dyslexic, the reading and writing posed an emotional and practical challenge, but his love for visual & creative development helped create a balanced and working relationship with his creativity. Currently, he has created nine books, has won numerous awards for his efforts, and has begun to attract television and film interests.

Baldwin feels extremely lucky to have found a great passion for storytelling, birthing idea with pencil and paper, his weapon of choice. A lot of his creations come from walking and paddling at sea, in the small coastal town where he lives, Sag Harbor, NY.

He has developed an annual award at his high school to help students find their life passion and the ability to execute it, in hopes to spark a lifelong career earlier. He has also started a dyslexia foundation to help keep the late Dr. Gertrude Webb’s teachings alive, as well as a charity to help save our local water called, The Great Peconic Race.
