With a warm welcome we invite Randolph Croxton to kick off our Fall Knowledge Friday series! A pioneer in green architecture with a lifelong interest in the military sciences, Mr. Croxton is a Sag Harbor gem, working hard to preserve the historical legacy of our small seaside town. The preservationist, author, and true renaissance man will discuss his own story, sharing the experiences that shaped him and how a fascination with Sag Harbor has led him to fiercely protect and honor its integrity.

Croxton wrote the introduction to the Sag Harbor Historical Museum’s Sag Harbor in the Revolution, an important book that was published this year to commemorate the village’s history and role relative to our nation’s 250th anniversary.  Therein, he illuminated the Battle of Sag Harbor, the heroic patriot attack on the British fort and garrison, and this town’s pivotal role in the 1776 formation of a nation. An elder at the Old Whaler’s Church, Croxton’s rich knowledge of our local landscape is indispensable and an incredible asset to our community.

Copies of Sag Harbor in the Revolution will be available for perusal and for purchase. 

This Knowledge Friday has been programmed as a bridge between our two exhibitions. This Land: Considering the American Landscape commemorated our nation’s 250th anniversary. Dear Mazie, honors and celebrates the life and legacy of Amaza Lee Meredith – our country’s first black queer female architect who co-founded the Azurest community of Sag Harbor. Join us as we examine with gratitude the legacy of this seaside village and welcome a man who has worked hard to preserve it.

Visit Dear Mazie, during our exhibition hours Thursday – Monday from 11 AM – 5 PM, which will be on view October 4 – December 27.

• ABOUT RANDOLPH

  RANDOLPH CROXTON: architect, author, and preservationist was born in Danville, Virginia and began his architectural career with the New York City firm of I. M. Pei and Partners. A lifelong interest in military science and history followed his 1968 US Army commission as a Second Lieutenant in Military Intelligence. Mr. Croxton founded Croxton Collaborative Architects in 1978 which received the profession’s highest award for design excellence: the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 1984 National Honor Award as well as receiving the 2005 US Green Building Council’s Award for National Leadership for establishing the founding principles and practices of Green Architecture in America. In 1999 Mr. Croxton received the AIA New York State President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Profession of Architecture. Mr. Croxton’s architectural philosophy led to his authorship of two books in the natural sciences: A Convergence of Two Minds 2015 and Co‧Genesis & the RNA Mind 2024. Notable projects include the headquarters for: The Natural Resources Defense Council, National Audubon Society, and Environmental Defense Fund, in NYC, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, DC.

  Mr. Croxton currently resides in Sag Harbor with his wife of twenty-five years, Fran Drummond. Serving as an Elder at Old Whaler’s Church, on the Board of Save Sag Harbor, and being instrumental in the 1994 designation of Old Whaler’s Church as a National Historic Landmark are among his most rewarding accomplishments.

  In her historic role as United States Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, she served as principal advisor to the President and Secretary of State on matters of global religious freedom, diplomacy, and human rights, overseeing a portfolio that included nearly 200 nations. She remains the only black woman from New York State to have held the rank of U.S. Ambassador. Her distinguished public service and international leadership have earned her recognition as one of the world’s leading voices in faith diplomacy, peacebuilding, and cross-cultural engagement.

  Before entering diplomatic service, Ambassador Sujay established herself as a pioneering religious and civic leader. She became the first African American woman elected senior pastor in the 200-year history of the American Baptist Churches USA and ministries and pastored three influential New York City congregations. Among her most celebrated ministries was the standing-room-only “Lunch Hour of Power,” a midweek worship and leadership experience that attracted more than 1,000 business professionals weekly for inspiration, empowerment, and spiritual renewal. She also created “Harlem Hallelujah” at the legendary Apollo Theater, blending faith, culture, music, and community outreach in transformative ways.

  A third-generation entrepreneur, Ambassador Sujay is also the founder and CEO of Charisma Speakers, the only global professional speaker’s bureau founded and owned by a Black woman. Through keynote speaking, executive coaching, leadership development, and communication training, she has inspired audiences across the globe to move from “good to great” through preparation, purpose, and powerful presentation skills. Her expertise spans leadership, diplomacy, wellness, faith, public policy, women’s empowerment, and strategic communications.  

  An accomplished scholar and educator, Ambassador Johnson Cook has held prestigious academic appointments at Harvard Divinity School, where she served as Associate Dean and faculty member, and has also been affiliated with Union Theological Seminary and The Catholic University of America. A bestselling author of 17 books, she is widely sought after as a media commentator, visiting fellow, lecturer, panel moderator, and leadership strategist. Her contributions to faith, scholarship, and public life have earned numerous honors, including induction into the Morehouse College of Preachers where her portrait was hung in the MLK International Hall of fame.

  Beyond diplomacy and ministry, Ambassador Sujay has dedicated her platform to the advancement and wellness of Black women globally. She is the founder of the Global Black Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the first chamber devoted exclusively to Black women business owners worldwide, and creator fo the annual STATE OF BLACK WOMEN™ Summit. For more than 25 year, she has also hosted “Selah by the Sea” a global faith-based wellness retreat designed to restore, empower, and uplift Black women leaders. Through her podcast, “Ask Dr. Sujay,” television programs, wellness initiatives, and Soulfully Sujay affirmation cards, she continues to champion personal healing, leadership development, entrepreneurship, and spiritual wellness for people across generations and cultures.
