¡Ven aquí and learn why Maria del Mar Piedrabuena and Juliana Holguín, the ladies of Tu Prensa Local, are indispensable assets to our East End Community! Tu Prensa Local, a Spanish-language, nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization serves the Latinx community as a provider of news, resources, and information. They are the only Spanish nonprofit news organization on Long Island and are the leading Spanish News organization focusing on the East End.  Did you know that the East End is home to nearly 37,000 Latinos? 23% of our local population and 20% of Long Island’s 2.9 million population are Latino.

Tu Prensa Local seeks to produce community-centered, high-quality, daily local news stories in Spanish for their readers on the East End. Founded in 2020, Tu Prensa Local is committed to their mission to inform, engage, and empower local Latino immigrants in their language as it is crucial to fostering civic participation and involvement. Join us and learn how the ladies undertook an incredible feat, the challenges they faced, and what they have learned in the process of creating this invaluable organization on the East End.   

Knowledge Fridays, held the first Friday of each month, highlight outstanding East End locals with various backgrounds and careers. The program allows the audience to meet and learn about dynamic, inspiring, and fascinating East Enders. It is a monthly program open to the public and free to our members.

  • María del Mar has worked in local and national US media outlets, covering a wide range of topics through articles, videos, photographs, and columns. She has received various journalism awards, including first place from the New York Press Association, several awards from the Press Club of Long Island, and a special recognition from Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Born in Spain, María del Mar graduated with a degree in Journalism, with specializations in digital and audiovisual journalism, as well as a degree in Women and Gender Studies and another in Humanities.

Juliana Holguín

  • Juliana has worked in print, radio, and television outlets in the United States and Colombia. She has reported on politics, business, immigration, education, social issues, and more. Her work has been recognized with numerous journalism prizes, including the prestigious Simón Bolívar National Award in Colombia, as well as several awards from the Press Club of Long Island. Born in Colombia, Juliana is a Social Communicator - Journalist, with a specialization in audiovisual journalism and a Master's degree in Political Science.
