The Church presents its very first unique choreographed commission

Award-winning contemporary dancer and choreographer CLAUDIA HILDA  is joined by Dancer DANNY QUITANA for a dance performance in response and commissioned as a companion to The Ark. Subtly interweaving an expanded multidisciplinary practice that combines performance, video art, and writing, Hilda presents a multidimensional work that deeply explores and expresses the themes of our summer exhibition, enriched by her collaboration with Quitana’s traditional foundation in dance. Audience experience is heightened by the beautiful experimental design of recent graduate ELEANORE JEFFREYS whose love for immersive design invites you deeper into the performance. Additionally, guests are treated to a live performance from the musical genius of ALEX KOI, whose music has been described as “impossibly stunning” (Stereo Stickman). Space is limited; please reserve tickets in advance and avoid the waitlist.

NOAH’S DAUGHTERS is the first-ever choreographed work commissioned by and specifically for The Church. We are grateful to the SHS Foundation, and specifically its Treasurer Sara Throne, for partnering with us to expand the presence of dance here – and by extension, to our entire East End community.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

CLAUDIA HILDA

CHOREOGRAPHER, DANCER, MULTI-MEDIA ARTIST

  • Claudia Hilda is a Cuban-born, New York-based movement director and interdisciplinary artist working across performance, choreography, and visual art. Her practice is rooted in the body as a living archive—one that remembers, resists, and transforms. Through gestural compositions and visual storytelling, she explores identity, ancestry, feminism, and contemporary cultural narratives from a cross-cultural, diasporic perspective.

With a rich background in performing arts and a decade-long career as principal dancer with the Cuban National Company of Contemporary Dance (2013–2023), she has performed on major stages across Europe and the Americas and collaborated with renowned choreographers, visual artists, and filmmakers. She holds a Master’s degree in Arts and Choreography from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London.

Her work lives in the hyphen—in between cultures, languages, and practices. It is plural, Caribbean, mestiza, migratory, dissident, and deeply human. In February 2025, she premiered Realismo Mágico at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). Most recently, Claudia was awarded the Fondation Bernard Grau – Académie des Beaux-Arts Choreography Prize and will be in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris from June to November 2025.

ELEANORE JEFFERYS

COSTUME DESIGNER

  • Eleanore Jeffreys is a recent graduate from Syracuse University with a BFA in Fashion Design. Over the course of her education and personal pursuit of design, her creative drive has centered on a passion for experimental wearable designs. Excited by pushing the traditional boundaries of what fashion can be, Jeffreys explores its potential to extend beyond the confines of the human form. Her recent introduction to the world of performance art through an Architecture and Fashion collaborative studio has ignited a profound passion for designing immersive, temporary experiences. She finds immense joy in crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that facilitate a unique connection between the viewer, the performers, and the narrative. Eager to continue exploring this exciting realm of wearable design throughout her career, Jeffreys believes that these pieces can forge lasting impressions and evoke powerful emotions.

ALEX KOI

MUSICIAN

  • Alex Koi is a vocalist, composer/producer, and improvising musician. Her music is the mystical translation between the privacy of her inner world and the somatic extrication of such. Through polyphonic narrative, ecstatic release, and coy murmurs, she bends between her diverse musical influences in Jazz and improvised music, the avant-garde, rock, and electronic music. She has had the privilege of collaborating with musicians, composers, visual artists, dancers, and directors at venues such as Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Joe's Pub, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, MassMoca, The Oculus, Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, Public Records, and more. She played the combined role of Tracy Dunn/Jillian Gilchrist in the Off-Broadway production of "Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower", Toshi Reagon's theatrical adaptation of the beloved novel.

Centering the emotionality of the human experience, she creates an explosive sound that has been called “impossibly stunning” [Stereo Stickman], “primal and futuristic at the same time” [Current Magazine] and that “bends between operatic and punk rock” [Audiofemme]. Her former, long-term Detroit-based band project Saajtak, has been called “one of the most intriguing and unclassifiable bands in the country right now" [Tone Madison]. Saajtak has released five independently-released EPs and one LP via Chicago’s American Dreams record label. Her upcoming album "Wake" with cellist Kirin McElwain is anticipated for release in 2026.

She is the recipient of a Church of Noise Grant and a Young Arts Awardee, and has been awarded residency at Avaloch Farm Music Institute. She was a composer fellow at NewAmsterdam's Composer Lab as well as a performer fellow with Bang on A Can.

Throughout her career, she has performed works by acclaimed international choreographers including Ohad Naharin, Aszure Barton, Robyn Mineko Williams, Ephrat Asherie, Fleur Darkin, and Billy Cowie; performing internationally in major stages worldwide, such as The Joyce Theater and New York City Center in the U.S., Barbican Hall in London, and the Garnier Opera in Monaco.
