Personal Mythologies: Fictional Storytelling with Bunni Brown

  • The Church 48 Madison Street Sag Harbor, NY, 11963 United States (map)

Tickets

  • General Ticket: $40

Activate your imagination and devise your own personal mythology! Presented by interdisciplinary artist & writer Bunni Brown, this fictional storytelling workshop delves into the process of narrative development and worldbuilding through research, writing, and self-reflection. Explore how themes of magic-surrealism and improvisation can be used to blend fact and fiction, while delivering meaningful stories to an audience.

Throughout the session, participants will generate their own unique perspectives of a personal mythology, drawing inspiration from a chosen piece of ephemera (photograph or postcard) and a short story tale or nursery rhyme. Participants will also spend time reading and evaluating selected folktales to examine how myths can be used to impart values and ideals for generations to come. Ample time will be given for writing and self-reflection, and at the conclusion of the workshop, each participant will have generated a short text around these themes.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants are asked to come prepared with a photograph or postcard, a printed copy of a short story tale or nursery rhyme (any short story or nursery rhyme that moves you – does not need to be written by you!), a notebook, and a pen/pencil.

Bunni Brown has been scheduled as a visiting artist in our 2026 Residency program. For more information, please visit thechurchsagharbor.org/residency
