The Church & Marfa Stance Present: The August Morning Basket Weaving Workshop with Underwater Weaving Studio

  • The Church 48 Madison Street Sag Harbor, NY, 11963 United States (map)

Tickets:

$250

Class size limited to 25

Join artist Erin Pollard, Founder of Underwater Weaving Studio, for an immersive basket–weaving workshop designed to inspire creativity and focus through the hand-brain connection. Guided by expert instruction and using plant-based materials, participants will craft their own handwoven rattan August Morning Basket while sharing a meaningful community experience alongside friends, family, or fellow makers. This workshop celebrates craft, connection, and the quiet luxury of creating something meaningful by hand.

“The perfect creative activity for a gathering, the rhythmic quality of making baskets allows the maker to become completely absorbed. The mind calms, focuses on the task, and blocks outside noise while creativity is triggered and the spirit rises,” says Pollard.

At the conclusion of the workshop, each participant will depart with a finished rattan basket, as well as an instruction booklet from Underwater Weaving Studio – an enduring keepsake of timeless technique and modern artistry.

Cost of admission includes all necessary materials and equipment, as well as light refreshments.

All weaving levels are welcome— no prior experience is required.

  • Underwater Weaving Studio creates hand-woven baskets that are best described as functional sculptures. Each piece is a blend of artistic exploration and practical utility, designed to be both used and contemplated. This is where time-honored technique and modern vision collide. With partnerships spanning small farms to fashion houses and installations that blur the line between art and utility, the studio quietly leads a cultural movement that honors the handmade, the inherited, and the overlooked. Underwater Weaving Studio Baskets and Kits are available at underwaterweaving.com, Moda Operandi, Over The Moon, and select independent shops nationwide.
