Mary Boochever reminds us to slow down, move with intention, quiet our minds, and raise awareness to the energy we carry and shape. A longtime Tai Chi practitioner, Boochever finds the practice and philosophy has informed her work as a visual artist and how she lives her life. As our May Wellness Monday leader, she invites you to find your own natural balance, unlocking your creative flow.

Join us as we learn the fundamentals Tai Chi based on an ancient Chinese practice built around the philosophy of Taoism. The ancient practice continues to provide lasting health benefits and aligns practitioners with rhythms that cultivate peace by stressing the natural balance in all things and the need for living in spiritual and physical accord with the patterns of nature.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Movement is best done in socks or bare feet.

  • Mary Boochever is a longtime practitioner of Tai Chi. Some of the ancient Chinese philosophy has informed her work and how she lives. In developing her own color language, Mary Boochever has explored sources as diverse as the Kabala and Goethe’s Color Theory. Boochever’s painting, sculpture, and installations draw the viewer into the immediacy of the color experience. Born into a Washington, D.C., Foreign Service family in 1954, she later studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Germany under Mac Zimmerman, Günther Frühtrunk, and Paul Meyer-Speer. Relocating to New York City in 1978, she taught at the School of Visual Arts and guest-lectured at Yale University. After moving to Long Island in 1993 she taught at Suffolk Community College in Riverhead and Lacoste School of the Arts in France. Boochever has shown extensively in galleries and museums in the US and Europe. She currently lives and works in Sag Harbor, NY.
